Service Description
Drawing Foundations II builds upon the observational skills introduced in Drawing Foundations I by exploring how artists create the illusion of three-dimensional form, depth, and light on a two-dimensional surface. Through guided exercises and demonstrations, students will strengthen their understanding of value, shading, proportion, and spatial relationships while gaining confidence in translating what they observe into convincing drawings. Rather than focusing on creating finished masterpieces, this course emphasizes the fundamental concepts that allow artists to describe form and create a sense of volume and space. Students will learn to simplify complex subjects into manageable shapes and use light and shadow to communicate depth and structure. Topics include: • Understanding light and shadow • Creating value scales and gradual transitions • Shading techniques and mark-making • Drawing spheres, cubes, cylinders, and other basic forms • Turning form through value • Proportion and measuring techniques • Creating the illusion of depth and space • Combining observation with technical understanding Drawing Foundations II is ideal for students who have completed Drawing Foundations I or those with some basic drawing experience who want to strengthen their understanding of form and value. All materials are included. Students should come prepared to experiment, make mistakes, and discover how a few simple principles can dramatically improve their drawings. 4 Weeks • 2 Hours Per Week Part of the Ethotera Foundations Program
