Art educator and multi-media studio artist, Carol Hutcherson has won numerous awards along the cost for her drawings and paintings. The most recent of which is the Kathy Lounsberry Award of Excellence at the 2023 Ocean Springs annual judged show. She is also the recipient of the 2024 MS Art Commission grant. In this 6-week drawing class, Carol Hutcherson will include the process of blending graphite and colored pencil media harmoniously. The class will be positive and encouraging -- a perfect opportunity to learn the basics. You will be encouraged to keep a sketchbook and challenge yourself at home. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced artists are welcome to hone their skills in a fun environment! "Drawing is the most basic fundamental element of art. Improving your drawing skills will serve naturally to improve your painting skills, no matter the medium." The Natural Way to Draw will be held for 6 weeks starting on Tuesday, March 5th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. COURSE SCHEDULE: Week 1: Intro to various papers and drawing tools: graphite, colored pencils, and gel pens. You will learn to see what you are drawing and how to hold your tools. Week 2: Still life set up. Emphasis on composition. Students will utilize thumb-nail sketches to compose an original still-life. The teacher will demo shading techniques and students will begin drawing in graphite. Week 3: Finish the original graphite still life or execute a new one. Week 4: Colored pencil still life Week 5: Drawing with imagination. Integrating gel pens with pencil work on colored paper. Week 6: Student's choice of subject matter and drawing media.
