Welcome to our Art Around the World Summer Camp for 6–12-year-olds! Our week 3 program is designed to introduce campers to various art forms from Asian subcultures, including paper lanterns, netsuke figures, and cherry blossom scrolls. Here's a detailed description of what to expect: • Paper Lanterns Our campers will learn about the history and significance of paper lanterns in Asian culture. They will be introduced to the different types of lanterns used, and the symbols and designs typically used in their decoration. Campers will create their own paper lanterns using colorful paper, wire frames, and markers. • Netsuke Figures Campers will learn about the Japanese art form of netsuke, small decorative objects traditionally used to secure a cord attached to a pouch or small container. They will learn about the different materials used in netsuke making and the symbolism of different animal figures. Campers will create their own netsuke figures using air-dry clay and paint. • Cherry Blossom Scrolls Campers will learn about the significance of cherry blossoms in Asian culture, particularly in Japan. They will be introduced to the history of cherry blossom art, and the different techniques used to create cherry blossom scrolls. Campers will create their own cherry blossom scrolls using watercolor paints, brushes, and paper. Throughout the week, campers will also participate in group discussions and activities to learn more about the history and traditions of Asian art. They will have the opportunity to share their own experiences and perspectives, and to learn from each other. The cost of the program is $175 per camper before May 1st, and there is a $25 registration fee that covers a complimentary t-shirt and all necessary supplies.
