The technique of printmaking is said to have originated in China dating back to 220 AD and was originally used to create patterns on fabric. Block printing is the art of transferring beautiful, artistic patterns carved on handmade wooden blocks onto fabric or paper. These patterns are usually inspired by nature, birds, animals, and popular motifs from around the world.

Students will create their design/drawing by either free-handing, tracing, or a combination of the two and carve them out of a rubber block (much easier than wood) to create a stamp of sorts.  Each participant will pull 6 prints using a variety of papers and inks.  This is a great technique for making your holiday…
