Let's Talk Color in Watercolor

You’ll learn how to:

• Glaze and layer color for glow

• Loosen up and mingle colors

• Understand achieving neutrals through color complements. Using neutrals to pop color

• Determine the right amount of water to use

• Opaque vs. Transparent

Through guided exercises, demos, and hands-on experimentation, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of how color works—and how to use it intentionally in your own art.

Don’t worry if color theory has ever felt confusing or overwhelming—this workshop breaks it down in a fun, accessible way. Sherry’s teaching style is encouraging and down-to-earth, making it easy to explore and experiment without pressure.

Suggested Supply List

• Watercolor paints (a basic palette is fine—ideally with a warm and cool version of each primary:

  • Warm Yellow: Cadmium Yellow Deep or New Gamboge

  • Cool Yellow: Lemon Yellow or Hansa Yellow Light

  • Warm Red: Cadmium Red or Vermilion

  • Cool Red: Alizarin Crimson or Permanent Rose

  • Warm Blue: Ultramarine Blue

  • Cool Blue: Phthalo Blue or Cerulean)

• a double Prang watercolor palette will work as well

• Watercolor paper (140 lb. cold press, 9x12” or larger)

• Water resistant surface to tape your paper to

• Watercolor mixing palette

• Watercolor brushes (round brushes in a few sizes recommended)

• Two water containers

• Pencil and eraser

• Paper towels or clean rag

• Optional: Color wheel (helpful, but not required)
